New York Nights
We¬'ve all faced the conundrum of having a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear. Rather than resigning herself to wearing something not quite right, Katie Nehra (today¬'s Insider) got busy. Proving that necessity is indeed the impetus for invention, she created what she felt her wardrobe lacked¬--versatile, any occasion appropriate, casually luxurious dresses¬--and launched her own label, Simone by Katie Nehra.
It¬'s difficult to not got nuts for the Simone by Katie Nehra spring line. This first season features six styles of frocks in loads of different cotton, silk, and chiffon fabrics. Celebrities are already snapping them up. Linsday Lohan and Michelle Williams purchased numerous pieces at the LA boutique Satine (Lohan bought four in one day), and Charlize Theron wears her cotton Simone dress on the beach in Malibu. If these credentials weren¬'t enough, Nehra was also featured in February¬'s Vogue and was written up in Women's Wear Daily. Nice work, especially when one considers that her line¬'s only been in stores for three months!
Part of the reason for such fashion-insider fuss is due to Nehra¬'s design focus. Who wouldn¬'t want a sophisticated frock that was equally fitting for a day at the museum and cocktails with friends? Digging on Nehra¬'s muti-tasking sensibilities (this extends to her whole world: she¬'s bi-coastal and primarily works as an actress) we thought she¬'d be a perfect source to consult about what to wear for a New York night out. Continue reading for all the things that the designer is currently into. We warn you though, before proceeding, keep in mind that Nehra¬'s got fantastic, expensive taste! (see simonecollection.com for details on where to buy the line)
Spring Awakening, from $133.80, broadway.com
¬"I saw this new Broadway musical the other week and it simply kicks ass. If you¬'re planning on visiting New York (or live there) you have to get tickets (if you can, the show¬'s up for 11 Tonys). Duncan Sheik wrote the amazing music and I loved Jonathan Groff¬'s performance.¬"
Acne Dianne pumps, $400, openingceremony.us
¬"The thick, gray tipped-heel on this shoe is the best. I love how tough it looks, even though it¬'s actually really comfortable. I¬'m just not into really skinny stilettos right now.¬"
Simone Jo dress, $575, Fred Segal Flair, 310.451.7178
¬"Okay, so I¬'m a little biased with this one, but my eyelet cotton Jo dress is a must-have. I like throw it on, slip on a belt, and wear it with either sandals during the day or little heels at night.¬"
Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in Glaze, $25, chanel.com
¬"This gloss is great for so many reasons: its gives your lips the perfect hint of color, the consistency isn¬'t sticky or tacky, and the shine is ideal. Your lips look clean and natural.¬"
Stephen Dweck Oval Turquoise Ring, $490, neimanmarcus.com
¬"No matter what you¬'re wearing, I think a big ring will add something to almost any outfit. My favorite piece is a marquis-shaped ring from the 1890¬'s that my mom gave me¬--it¬'s very distinctive. I prefer pieces in a strong color, so a faceted, turquoise ring like this one from Stephen Dweck is a great statement piece.¬"
Chanel CC Punk Clutch, $2950, Saks Fifth Avenue Beverly Hills, 310.887.5355
¬"I¬'m a sucker for Chanel bags, and right now I¬'m obsessed with the black Chanel Punk Clutch. It¬'s the perfect size for nights out and the rings on the side make it unique.¬"
Cartier Menotte bracelet, $5,350, cartier.com
¬"This Cartier bracelet is so cool¬--it¬'s a handcuff made out of 18-carat pink gold!¬"
Stila Rouge Pot, $18, stilacosmetics.com
¬"I used to use these pots all the time and I¬'ve recently gotten back into them. You can use this product on your face or your lips, and it blends with your coloring in a very subtle way. It has cute packaging, a great texture, and even the smell is nice.¬"
