Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen
Perhaps it┬'s not a politically correct question to ask┬--favoritism has such a negative connotation these days┬--but we┬'re always dying to know which pieces in a collection are the designer┬'s favorites. Not only that, but we also want to hear how they would mix individual items from the line into their personal wardrobe. So naturally we were thrilled when Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen offered to talk to us about their Spring 08 Elizabeth and James collection! The Sisters Olsen walked us through their personal picks from the line and shared details on how they will wear (or in some cases, have worn) them. Check out their specific quotes above and then read on for all the product detail.
Also, be sure to check out the Elizabeth and James website for the complete collection, as well as stockist information.
Francoise Jacket ($775)
Our fondness for little leathers is well documented, but we┬'re really crazy about the Francoise. It comes in the lovely rust color shown above and white┬--both perfect choices for spring. We love the little details, like the six-inch zippers on the sleeves and the snappy stand collar.
Belle du Jour Dress ($445, available at Shopbop in April)
The Elizabeth and James take on a little black dress is stunning, to say the least. The knit Belle du Jour is seriously sexy, though, as Mary Kate pointed out, it can easily be dressed down. We┬'re particularly keen on the halter-style neckline, which is both flattering and lovely.
Hostess Pajama Pants ($365)
Simple and slouchy, these silk trousers revive and riff on the must-have piece for any fashionable hostess in the late 50┬'s and early 60┬'s┬--hostess pants. They┬'re a smart piece to have in your wardrobe, as they┬'re wildly comfortable and look sophisticated no matter how you style them. The pants have a grosgrain drawstring tie at the waist and grosgrain trim running down the side of the leg (much tuxedo trousers). They┬'re currently available in Coal at Saks and will be available in Prussian blue at Shopbop in April.
Plume Vest ($565)
This spring Elizabeth and James has a couple of amazing options for vests (look for one in an upcoming Who What Wear TV episode), but the Plume Vest is particularly stunning. It has a slightly longer cut then your standard vest and is made from ostrich feathers. It will be available in black at Shopbop in April.
Wilde Jacket ($400)
This jacket is aptly named and would add a dandified air to whatever you wear with it. It┬'s heaven in all white, as shown above, and equally striking in coal linen with a white vest. The boyish shape and snug fit make a statement without screaming and we think Oscar would approve. It┬'s available for pre-order at Saks now in Coal and will also be available in Shell (as pictured above) later this spring.
Parachute Dress ($375)
Whether you prefer the tangerine, as shown above, or an iris hue of purple-blue, the Parachute dress would be a graceful addition to any wardrobe. Does it look familiar? Perhaps that┬'s because Ashley Olsen wore it with a blue scarf and silver-studded black Manolo Blahnik sandals to a launch party for the E&J line last year. It┬'s currently available in Iris at Saks and will be available in Tangerine at Neiman Marcus.
Hall Skirt ($345)
If you┬'ve been searching for the perfect pencil skirt, look no further! This body conscious piece has stretch banding at the waist (very Herve Leger) and a cool hook-and-eye closure. It┬'s available in the black/white combination at Shopbop and in all black at Pink Mascara.
