Fashion fanatics, stylists, and celebrities alike have flocked to Katy Rodriguez and Mark Haddaway¬'s vintage boutique Resurrection (in NYC¬'s Nolita and LA¬'s Melrose Heights). The stores are iconic and the extensive-yet-perfectly-edited selections are legendarily inspiring. Perhaps that¬'s why we weren¬'t surprised to find ourselves total smitten kittens for Rodriguez¬'s new solo project¬--her eponymous clothing line. The Katy Rodriguez line is comprised of 13 original pieces¬--tunics, rompers, and dresses¬--mainly fashioned out of vintage or custom-dyed silks. Rodriguez¬'s designs are incredibly women-friendly, modern, and versatile; a dress can be worn as a skirt or go from day to drinks without pause. The vast majority of her staff is female and she incorporates their feedback in her design process. Consequently, she gets a sense of what truly works on people who aren¬'t fit models by profession. ¬"Like most women, I have my own idiosyncrasies about how things look and I¬'ve been very hard on myself,¬" she says. ¬"So I love to show a lot of collarbones and shoulders and backs in my dresses because I think these are very pretty points on most women.¬" We couldn¬'t agree more.
With sartorial superstar clients like Zooey Deschanel, Lindsay Lohan, Claire Danes, and Rachel Zoe snapping up pieces like the Twist Dress (which the December Marie Claire heralded as the best holiday frock, also shown above), it looks like we¬'re not the only ones who think Katy Rodriguez¬'s collection is the cat¬'s pajamas.
