Growing up in Southern California, we always had a love for "America's Mermaid"-the incomparable Esther Williams. The former competitive swimmer (she nearly went to the Olympics until WWII intervened), Williams is best known as the wholesome glamour girl of Hollywood's famous swimming pool pictures of the 1940's and 50's like Bathing Beauty, Neptune's Daughter, and Million Dollar Mermaid. Perhaps we're waterlogged, but we could swear we saw a certain watery influence on the spring runways.
Some of our favorite modernized versions of Williams' look include a cheeky playsuit from Topshop ($136, www.topshop.com). We love the retro wedge of these Prada sandals ($529, www.styledrops.com). Modesty looks fresh with Marni's athletic bikini ($282.75, www.brownsfashion.com). Finally, we're oddly mad for this Palms Springs mod turban by Biba ($136.50, www.brownsfashion.com). All of the above would be simply divine for a weekend at Miami's Raleigh Hotel. After all, the famous pool was the backdrop for many a Miss Williams film!
