As we were looking at the collections this season, we suddenly had a sonic reaction to certain spring fashions. The sounds snuck into to our ears while we flipped through our racks of pulls and pages of look books and we found ourselves humming along. Wonder what the soundtrack is for these slightly sixties/sort of seventies pieces with a great dose of earthy style? Why the early albums of Carly Simon, of course!
Take one look at Simon's take on trends circa Anticipation-her 1972 breakout album for the unaware out there-and you'll see why she's the perfect person to be Currently Channeling right now. The stunning songstress favored gladiator sandals, large floppy-brimmed hats, and the occasional casual caftan-like top, all of which are equally fresh now. Roberto Cavalli, D&G, and DKNY showed variations of Simon's specific hippie look.
It's beyond easy to channel Carly and we've picked a few key pieces to get you started. The round frames of Proenza Schouler's Contrast Sunglasses ($290) look like they could be a modern oversized version of the era's granny glasses. We love the shiny black option but the tortoise is even more divine. Another amazing item is the Tibi Zebra Print Tunic ($325), which has fantastic wooden bead detail at the neck. As far as accessories go, we imagine Simon would flip her lid for a slouchy big-brimmed hat in a zesty orange like the Straw Floppy Hat ($40) from Topshop. Our final spirited selection is the Beaded Thong ($88) from Jeffrey Campbell. The beaded gladiator sandal is perfect in purple, as shown, and wonderfully warm in a natural tan shade as well.
