As we gear up for the year’s biggest music festival—and prep our desert-bound suitcases—we can’t help but reflect on the standout looks from years past. We’re turning to Coachella veterans, such as Kate Bosworth, Diane Kruger, and Solange Knowles, for outfit inspiration, and recommend you take a page from their stylebooks, too. Keep reading for our fashionable trip down memory lane.
Of all Bosworth’s incredibly inspiring Coachella looks to choose from, this one is hands-down our favorite. Not only was it our first peek at the now infamous Isabel Marant wedge sneakers, but her Topshop American flag tank and white Current/Elliott shorts set the patriotic style standard for years to come.
We loved the British beauty’s bedazzled Christopher Kane cutoffs so much, we found a way to make them ourselves.
Leave it to the Coachella regular and It-Brit to make crushed velvet work on a scorching spring afternoon. Chung opted for a vintage dress and necklaces paired with patent leather Kurt Geiger sandals.
By far one of our favorite looks from the 2012 fest, Hemingway sizzled in Dolce & Gabbana’s matching pepper-print crop top and skirt—a look that would be just at home at one of this year’s pool parties.
Richie showcased her earthy sensibilities at the Mulberry BBQ when she wore a blouse and bag by the British brand, paired with House of Harlow 1960 sunglasses and denim cutoffs.
Come festival season, Hudgens is the queen of the flower crown…and the crop top, and the denim short shorts. Simply put: we can always count on the actress to bring her bohemian A-game each year.
It takes some chutzpah to wear knee-high black suede boots (Kruger’s are H&M) in the desert, but the actress does so aplomb. She gets bonus points for her H&M Rolling Stones tee and printed shorts.
A departure from her more sexed-up sensibilities, Perry’s tiered lace Coachella look is utterly sweet and feminine. We particularly love her polka-dot headscarf (the perfect alternative to a floral crown) and long Chanel pearl necklace.
We were, and still are, completely smitten with Watson’s Mulberry tiger-print playsuit at the brand’s annual BBQ two years ago. The Noah actress accessorized her warm weather look with a brown floppy hat, Mulberry cross-body bag, and Joie sandals.
All eyes were on the gorgeous models, both sporting wide-brim hats and sunglasses, at last year’s festival. While Kerr opted for a simple t-shirt and leather shorts combo, Ambrosio was a boho babe in a peasant blouse, fringe vest, and crochet shorts.
Not surprisingly, the sartorial risktaker was an early adopter of the crop top trend, styling a nude bandeau with a high-waisted print skirt.
The singer’s neon color combo—specifically a Jeremy Scott tee and JW Anderson skirt—made her a standout at the Lacoste L!Ve party.
One could argue Welch—spotted backstage before her performance—was ahead of the curve in her metallic gold shorts.
If you prefer a fuss-free look, consider Hough your music festival muse. The triple threat checked out her favorite bands in a cream button-down blouse, denim shorts, and lace-up boots.
