Makeup Artist Travel Secrets
Never look tired after traveling again!

CommentsWho better to guide us through an in-flight beauty routine than the makeup artists who travel the world over keeping A-list starlets looking their best? These women, all of whom rack up frequent flier miles like it's their job, enthusiastically shared their secrets for battling the dry, not-so-fresh air on board airplanes.
Kate Lee, one of Chanel's leading makeup artists, works with a stable of stunning clients including Sienna Miller, Keira Knightley, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
"The first thing I do when I get on the plane is wash my hands and use Herban Essentials' Lavender Towelettes ($16)," Lee says. The individually packaged antibacterial wipes work their magic on everything from your face to your armrest. "Next I'll put on my Chanel's Hydra Beauty Serum ($98); it delivers amazing hydration throughout the flight."

The only product Andersen uses mid-flight is The Honest Company's Healing Balm ($13). "I want my skin to breathe, be bare, and recover," she says. "And stay away from salty foods to avoid bloating and puffy eyes."
Lauren Andersen's reputation is built on glowing skin and just the right amount of color, a look she regularly shows off on gorgeous clients like Eva Mendes, Jessica Alba, and Jaime King, not to mention on Madonna's current MDNA tour.
If you learn one thing from this story, it should be to moisturize the heck out of your face. "I take off with a fresh, clean, moisturized face--and lips!--and apply SKII's Facial Treatment Mask ($125)," Andersen says. "Before landing, I'll spritz myself with Caudalie's Beauty Elixir ($18)."

"I keep my makeup to a minimum when I fly," Goodwin says, "but I never leave the house without Chanel's Inimitable Mascara." Goodwin also keeps a concealer on hand, and smooths on a coat of Epicuren's Aloe Vera Gel ($20) underneath her moisturizer. "It creates a great moisture barrier and keeps your skin from drying too quickly on long flights."
Rachel Goodwin works her magic on some of our favorite starlets, including Emma Stone, January Jones, and Natalie Portman. Not surprisingly, she's also one of Chanel's leading makeup artists.
If Goodwin could only bring one thing on the airplane, it'd be lip balm. "My favorite is Biologique Recherché's Biokiss Lip Balm ($48)," she says. "It's not sticky or waxy and keeps my lips hydrated for the entire flight." And she eschews the major beauty brands in favor of Mun No.1 Aknari's Nighttime Dream Youth Serum ($95) on overnight flights. "It's a mixture of natural oils that I apply around my eyes or all over my face before falling asleep."

"When flying overseas I always keep my beauty regime as routine as possible," McAdams says when asked if she wears makeup on board. She does, of course, leave her face bare on an overnight flight. "If I would do it at home, I do it on the plane; it helps me stay on schedule and avoid feeling jet-lagged and confused when I land." She sticks with the basics: Tarte's Maracuja Creaseless Concealer ($24), CoverGirl's Clump Crusher Mascara ($9), and Stila's Convertible Color ($25) in Gerbera.

"I bring knee-high circulation socks to wear on the plane," McAdams adds. But she rubs Weleda's Skin Food ($15) all over her legs, hands, and elbows before pulling on the socks. Then she'll spritz Aveda's Botanical Kinetics Toning Mist ($20) on her face.
Kayleen McAdams works with a string of starlets including Jessica Biel, Zooey Deschanel, Lily Collins, and, of course, her sister, Rachel McAdams.
"I always brush my teeth and use mouthwash after I finish eating, even on flights," McAdams says. "Then I use Skinceuticals' Hydrating B5 Gel Moisturizer ($70) and Eve Lom's Lip Balm ($22)."

After Lee brushes her teeth with Marvis' Ginger Mint Toothpaste ($6), she uses Neutrogena's Deep Clean Makeup Removing Wipes ($8) to remove the serum before indulging in Shiseido's Benefiance Instant Treatment Eye Mask ($63). "Fifteen minutes and you look amazingly well rested," she says. "If I do put on some makeup for my arrival, it's usually just a few swipes of Kanebo Sensai's Concealer ($33)," Lee says. "And I curl my lashes!"

Lee applies Chanel's Coco Baume Hydrating Conditioning Lip Balm ($33) while she sleeps and uses Quies' Natural Wax Ear Plugs ($15). "They warm up with your body heat and mold to fit perfectly, so they're amazingly comfortable," she says. That sleep comes thanks to H. Gillerman's Sleep Remedy ($48) and Lee actually makes sure to wake up 30 minutes before landing to finish her beauty routine.

Before landing, Andersen curls her lashes and swipes on YSL's Touche Eclat ($40) and Dior's Blackout Mascara ($25), before dabbing Nars' Cream Blush ($28) in Penny Lane to the apples of her cheeks.
