In celebration of the debut of Burberry’s new flagship store in Shanghai’s Kerry Centre, our co-founder Hillary Kerr traveled to China to check out the luxurious new space in person. And with surprise appearances from Cara Delevingne, Suki Waterhouse, British musicians Paloma Faith and Ed Harcourt, the brand’s CEO and resident genius Christopher Bailey, and the chicest skyline you could ever imagine, the trip was insanely glamorous in every way. And we’re off! A 14-hour flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai calls for catching up on my favorite magazines—Lucky, Vanity Fair, GQ, Vogue, and ELLE, of course—and newspapers.

Talk about a gobsmacking view! The hotel window looked out on the Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower, which lit up in new, colorful ways every few moments.

Burberry knows a thing or two about parties! The pop-up invite to the celebration of the new flagship store is unquestionably cool, especially because it arrived with the brand’s Fresh Glow Fluid Base ($48), Lip Mist ($30) in Nude Peach, and the Trench Collection Square Sunglasses ($260) in Tortoise Shell.

Shanghai from up high! Love how so many of the city’s buildings look like they’re wearing fancy crowns.

The store is honestly a work of art, featuring custom-made furniture, bespoke chevron wood floors, and imported British stone. But best and most interesting of all: the outside of the building changes, depending on natural light. It’s brighter when light is low, and becomes more matte when the sun is shining full blast. Plus, look at that signature plaid—so cool.

File under: drooling. Couldn’t help swooning over this incredible and rare assortment of exotic bags, including the Alligator Bowling Bag ($25,000).

One of the greatest parts of the trip? Getting to watch makeup artist and Burberry Beauty creative consultant Wendy Rowe work her magic on model Matilda Lowther (you surely know her from the Burberry Beauty campaigns). The brand’s created so many incredible new products for fall, but sadly our lips are sealed until then. That said, one small hint: it’s all SO good.

Oh and did I mention that Suki Waterhouse popped by at one point, and Wendy Rowe did her makeup too? She’s just the prettiest, period.

And can we talk about the party? In honor of the new flagship store, Burberry invited a slew of high-profile guests to celebrate. The fete included a runway show (the Burberry Prorsum F/W 14 collection, to be precise), performances by British musicians Paloma Faith, Ed Harcourt, George Ezra, and DJ Gary Powell, an insanely cool, choreographed dance number, a short film highlighting Burberry’s history, and finally, Cara Delevingne taking flight above the crowd.
