Byrdie.com is now hiring Beauty Editors! We’re looking for highly skilled candidates, with a strong background in both beauty and online writing, who work well in a fast-paced environment.
Position: Beauty Editor at Byrdie.com
Clique Media—parent company to WhoWhatWear.com, DomaineHome.com, and Byrdie.com—is currently seeking full-time Beauty Editors to join its fast-paced Byrdie.com editorial team in Los Angeles.
The ideal candidates are accomplished online editors with a comprehensive knowledge of celebrity beauty trends, runway trends, and beauty brands, as well as exceptionally strong writing skills. Byrdie.com’s Beauty Editors must also have strong visual sensibilities and the ability to make beauty market recommendations that are suitable and appropriate for the site’s content. These positions offer enormous potential for growth within the company, and are an integral part of this exciting multi-media fashion and beauty start-up.
-Writing, editing, and conceiving four to five stories per day, across all beauty categories.
-Photo research, including downloading and gathering photo credits.
-Producing stories, advertorials, and newsletters in the CMS.
-Writing social copy around each story.
-Working with the ad sales team to conceive, execute, and build custom copy for campaigns and advertorials.
-Managing Byrdie’s Instagram account.
-Conceiving, planning, and executing Byrdie’s editorial shoots.
-Working closely with the Entertainment Director to guarantee one exclusive celebrity feature per week.
-Covering New York Fashion Week to discover seasonal trends, new products, and develop relationships with editorial artists and stylists.
-Staying up to date on beauty news for timely stories (in addition to daily features), relevant videos for the video section, and social engagement.
-Maintaining close relationships with (mostly New York-based) beauty publicists.
-Working closely with artists’ agencies to maintain relationships with celebrity hair, makeup, and nail artists for breaking news and bookings.
-Recruiting, training, and teaching interns to help with all of the above.
-Tracking and optimizing the site’s traffic and referrals, on both a weekly and monthly basis.
Skills and Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience in online publishing, with a proven background in beauty
-Strong grammar, research, and copy-editing skills, as well as a deep love of beauty writing
-Firsthand experience with daily publishing in a CMS, plus familiarity with HTML and web-publishing software tools
-Must have a comprehensive knowledge of celebrities, models, tastemakers, makeup artists, hairstylists, colorists, dermatologists, and fitness experts
-Able to work calmly under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and provide self-direction -Strong contacts/relationships with beauty industry press teams and celebrity publicists
-Familiarity with Byrdie.com’s voice and style
-Must be team players, with resourceful, can-do attitudes, who thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment
This is a full-time salaried position located in Los Angeles. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
