Blake Lively Reveals Why She's Not Afraid of Aging

Jessica Schiffer

Blake Lively graces the May 2015 cover of Allure, looking fresh-faced and beautiful as always, and the accompanying interview is filled with insight into living life à la Lively. When asked about her latest role in The Age of Adaline, in which she plays a woman who becomes immortal after surviving a brutal car crush, the actress shares her refreshing perspective on the reality of getting old:

"People are obsessed with beauty and youth and with looking and feeling young forever, but look at a woman who is granted that: She's trapped, because it's tragic to be young forever… And also, having a child makes you realize that we pass on for a reason. You think, I have to go, because it makes room for [them]."

Given Hollywood’s (or should we just say society’s?) obsession with youth, it’s nice to hear a major actress celebrating the natural aging process rather than running from it in fear. Of course, Lively is still very young, but we have faith she’ll stick to her guns on this one—gray hair and all. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed fashion’s recent fascination with all the cool older ladies out there—perhaps with an endorsement from Lively, Hollywood will catch on, too? Fingers crossed.
