Golden Globe Beauty Superlatives
-
CommentsGlowing skin and '40s waves were the beauty standard at Sunday's Golden Globe Awards. Luckily, a few pretty faces strayed from the pack, breaking out bright colors, messy updos, and couture-worthy nail art. We picked our favorites and grilled their artists and stylists for a few tips on pulling off their looks on our own, no red carpet necessary.
Best Matching Makeup to Dress
Makeup artist Beau Nelson managed to make blue eye shadow look fresh on Nicole Richie. He pressed Elizabeth Arden's Beautiful Color Eye Shadow ($19) in Sky onto her eyelids before lining Richie's upper and lower lash line with the brand's Beautiful Color Pencil ($18) in Midnight to make the frosty blue pop.

If you saw long hair on Sunday's red carpet, chances are it was parted on the side and curled into soft waves--unless you were Julianne Moore. Hairstylist Chris McMillan used Living Proof's Prime Style Extender ($20) to build her '60s-inspired beehive and the brand's Firm Hold Hairspray ($24) to keep it in place.

The cast of Girls (minus absent Jemima Kirke) looked impeccable Sunday night, taking home the Golden Globe for Best TV Comedy or Musical. Makeup artist Jo Strettell painted Lena Dunham's lips with Koh Gen Do's Maifanshi Lipstick ($39) in Coral Pink; Mai Quynh used Yves Saint Laurent's Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascra ($30) in Noir Radical Mascara to give Zosia Mamet those full lashes; and Julie Harris used Nars' Pure Matte Lipstick ($25) in Montego Bay on Allison Williams.

Jessica Alba didn't let her coral gown stop her from adding a bold lip; makeup artist Lauren Andersen painted the perfect shade of tangerine on Alba's lips with Hourglass' Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick ($28) in Riviera.
Best Mermaid Moment
Andy Lecompte accessorized Lucy Liu's Carolina Herrera gown with a perfectly messy fishtail braid tossed over her right shoulder. He used Wella's Professional Ocean Spritz ($16) to score that roughed-up texture and rubbed the brand's Rugged Fix ($14) on the ends to make it extra piecey.

Sienna Miller's nearly bare, glowing skin stood out in a sea of powdered faces and smoky eyes. Makeup artist Pati Dubroff used Chanel's Sublimage La Crème Texture Supreme ($390) and Base Lumiere Illuminating Makeup Base ($42) to prep the actress' skin, with a bit of Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base ($48) to contour her cheekbones and lend a bit of sun-kissed color.

On an evening when seemingly everyone took their hair inspiration from Veronica Lake, Rachel Weisz did it best. Instead of soft finger waves, hairstylist Ben Skervin pumped up the volume for a much-needed dose of modernity. He used a one-inch curling iron, pinning the curls up until they cooled, and sprayed a generous amount of Vidal Sassoon's Pro Series Extra Firm Hold Hairspray ($4) at the end for all of that shine.

Riawna Capri of Nine One Zero Salon calls Julianne Hough's 'do a "twisted mohawk." Whatever it is, we love it. She prepped Hough's hair with Unite Expanda's Dust ($20) for both height and texture and used the brand's Shina Mist ($18) for crazy shine.

Makeup artist Jake Bailey saw Helmut Newton in Katharine McPhee's Theyskens' Theory dress, so he gave her the smoky eyes to match, lining them with Nars' Larger Than Life Long Wear Eyeliner ($23) in Via Veneto before using a brush to smudge the brand's Duo Eyeshadow ($34) in Corduro across the lid.
