Before we officially bid adieu to 2011 and stylishly ring in 2012, it seems only fitting that we take some time to reflect on the year's most memorable sartorial moments! From eye-popping bubblegum stripes to '40s-inspired glamour, the previous twelve months have been a whirlwind of key trends and truly inspiring ensembles. But instead of spending days recapping, we'd like to tip our hats to the perennially stylish ladies that donned such looks and executed them with aplomb. So on the eve of New Year's Eve we bring you, dear readers, our second annual installment of Best Dressed, featuring ten of the most fashionable stylesetters of 2011. Cheers!
WHO: Rachel Bilson
WHAT: Style Savant
WEAR: Without question, Rachel Bilson consistently has the best all-around style. Her California casual sensibilities are universally appealing and completely relatable, which explains why she's been a reader favorite for years. Whether she's toting one of the season's most covetable handbags or sporting an edgy evening look, her ensembles are always effortlessly chic, utterly stylish, and definitely inspirational. As if that's not enough, the actress also teamed up with celebrity stylish Nicole Chavez and Steve Madden this year to create the amazing footwear collection ShoeMint, which we highly recommend you check out today!
WHO: Elizabeth Olsen
WHAT: The Next Fashion Star
WEAR: If there's anything better than two stylish Olsens, it's three! And we couldn't be more in love with the youngest sibling of the style-savvy family, Elizabeth. The breakout star clearly has style in spades, as evidenced by her repertoire of ensembles, which has included everything from an of-the-moment Erdem floral-print midi skirt to the must-have pair of houndstooth pumps we spotted her wearing two months ago. It's safe to say, we can expect great things from this up-and-coming actress, both on and off the big screen!
WHO: Alexa Chung
WEAR: We'd be remiss if we didn't include Alexa Chung in our annual Best Dressed roundup. For starters, the tastemaker nailed it as our September Guest Editor, showcasing an insanely cool selection of fall items, plus, she consistently gets it right when it comes to some of the year's biggest trends-think: silky button-ups and chunky platforms. And let's not forget that 2011 also saw Chung produce another sell-out collection for Madewell as well as snag the British Style Award for the second year running!
WHO: Emma Stone
WHAT: Fearless Femme of the Year
WEAR: We're a bit obsessed with Emma Stone, but can you blame us? The girl is definitely cool, which is not only apparent in her impressive on-screen resume, but in her fun and fearless approach to fashion too! From a bold color combo to a thigh-high slit, we applaud the fact that Stone doesn't always play it safe with her style choices and has an affinity for truly original, fashion-forward pieces. The results are always memorable and worth celebrating.
WHO: Miranda Kerr
WHAT: Runway to Real Way
WEAR: It's no surprise that Miranda Kerr is truly beloved by everyone right now! The Australian model is killing it both on and off the runways and is responsible for putting together some of the most desirable outfits of the year. When she's not showing off her glamorous side and amazing physique in flirtatious mini skirts and achingly stylish evening ensembles, the brunette beauty is winning us over with her model-off-duty outfits. Plus, she also happens to be one the year's most stylish moms too-have you seen her adorable baby Flynn? All in all, we can always count on Kerr to inspire our year-round wardrobe!
WHAT: Haute Mom
WEAR: When it comes to stylish mothers-to-be, Beyonce has our vote! Our reasoning is simple: the songstress never fails to excite with her flamboyant flair, which is evident in her fondness for bold prints, bright accents, and lustrous frocks. She can give a relaxed look some sex appeal with a pair of red patent leather heels or amplify all-noir separates with a sky blue leather jacket (as seen above) and the results are completely on par, not to mention, totally cool in our books. Of course Beyonce's impressive fashion moments of 2011 don't stop there! How could one forget her video for "Run The World (Girls)," which featured seven glamorous outfit changes, including two Emilio Pucci dresses, an Alexander McQueen mini dress, and a metallic Gareth Pugh number?
WHO: Chloe Moretz
WHAT: Favorite Fresh Face
WEAR: While the year brought us an exciting new batch of fashionable newcomers, there was one particular style rookie who really stood out: Chloe Moretz. The fourteen-year-old has landed herself on top of many a 2011 best-dressed list, thanks to a key mix of on-trend and age-appropriate outfits. Whether she's impressing fashion crowds with a minimalist aesthetic or embracing her edgier side with textured pants, Moretz has become quite the stylephile-and it's only just the beginning. With three films slated to release next year, we have a hunch we'll be seeing a lot more thrilling fashion moments from this rising starlet!
WHO: Zoe Saldana
WHAT: Red Carpet Maven
WEAR: While we're certainly fans of Zoe Saldana's off-duty attire, it was her invariably chic and wonderfully feminine red carpet picks that had us swooning all year long. Whether she's stepping out in a breathtaking red and white striped gown or experimenting with of-the-moment Polynesian pieces, Saldana continues to push the envelope with her dramatic selections, proving she can pull off a wide range of interesting looks.
WHO: Kirsten Dunst
WHAT: Style Resurgence
WEAR: Kirsten Dunst has been gracing our inspiration boards for years, so it's always a delight to see the actress/muse's current sartorial endeavors! While we're obviously fond of her cool-girl sensibilities and eye for all things chic-check out her November Guest Editor story to see what we mean-lately she's been turned out in an exciting rotation of diaphanous dresses and menswear-inspired looks. Dunst wears these ensembles in completely chic and sophisticated ways, which is why we think she's rightfully earned the Most Exciting Comeback award!
WHO: Jessica Biel
WHAT: The Modern Classic
WEAR: Jessica Biel is a master of sophisticated, classic style. While we adore her sportier off-the-clock ensembles, when she's on the red carpet or at events, the brunette beauty has a way with timeless, feminine pieces that have a modern, subtly sexy feel. Whether she's sitting front row at Fashion Week in an all-white, ladylike ensemble or stepping out in a brilliant combination of tangerine separates, we're over the moon about Biel's perfectly polished fashion sense.-Jessica Baker
