Most People Will Dislike This Denim Trend, But Ready or Not, It's Taking Over

Another seasonanother denim trend to enter the scene. As you can probably tell, we're big fans of denim and all of its variations around these parts, so when we get wind of a new favorite making the rounds, we won't hesitate to see what it's all about. This time, colored denim is stepping into the spotlight, showing up across our favorite go-to brands such as Zara, Stella McCartney, and Etro. Arguably, the trend really jump-started after Chanel's S/S 21 runway show, where one look showcased a pair of high-waisted pink jeans styled against an elegant cropped cape. It felt true to Chanel Creative Director Virginie Viard's "dressed-down meets formal princess" aesthetic and gave us a dose of styling inspiration in the process.

You may already own a few pairs of khaki or dusk-colored jeans in soft, neutral tones, but what sets this trend apart is its louder approach to color—we're talking ultra-pigmented shades, with hot pink, kelly green, and lilac among them. Pulling off something like this isn't for the faint of heart, but if you're ready to jump into the deep end, we put together an array of vibrantly colored jeans that won't let you down. While you build out your warm-weather shopping list, add a few pairs of these to your lineup. Read ahead to see all of the colorful jeans we're loving right now and the ways fashion girls are wearing them.

Fashion Market Editor

Indya Brown is a fashion editor, stylist, and writer living in Los Angeles. While going to school at Columbia University in New York City, she got her feet wet in the fashion industry interning at Elle magazine, Harper's Bazaar, and New York magazine's The Cut. After graduating in 2016, she joined The Cut as a fashion assistant, eventually working her way up to fashion editor. There, she worked on a multitude of projects, including styling inbook feature stories for New York magazine's print issue, writing and pitching market stories for The Cut, and serving as fashion lead for The Cut's branded content. While New York has been her home for over 10 years, she moved to Los Angeles in the midst of the pandemic in 2020 for a new chapter. Now she is a fashion market editor for Who What Wear, focusing on emerging designers, rising trends on and off the internet, interior design, and BIPOC creatives and brands. Aside from her duties as a fashion market editor, Brown is also a freelance stylist and writer, working on national print and video commercial campaigns for Sephora, The Independent, and Cadillac. Her bylines also include Harper's Bazaar, Vox, and The New York Times. But once the computer goes down and the emails turn off, she's likely eating her way through Koreatown, hunting down vintage furniture, scoping out new outrageous nail designs to try, or taking a hot cycling class.
