Welcome to the latest edition of the series in which we’ll cover a variety of basics that we turn to time and time again. We hope that The Basics will help you to build your closet with pieces that you too will wear on repeat without doing harm to your bank account. We already covered the $30 pants that I consider life-changing, the $69 treggings that "flatter every body type," the free leggings everyone was talking about, the perfect T-shirt I wear over and over, and the world’s most slimming skinny jeans. Next up, I’m sharing with you the $30 tank I can't stop wearing with leggings.

Nine times out of 10, if I'm wearing leggings, I'm wearing a simple tank top (often knotted at the waist). And nine times out of 10, the tank top that I find myself reaching for as of late is Lou & Grey's (a mecca of chic basics) $30 Softserve Cotton Racerback Tank. It's called Softserve for a reason—I've truly yet to encounter a more comfortable, lightweight, buttery tank. It's currently available in white and two of the season's most on-trend colors: pink and marigold. If there were more colors, I'd probably buy them all. (Hot tip: If you purchase all three, the brand is currently running a promotion that gives you 30% off.)

If you choose not to knot your tank at the waist and want a little more coverage, I can also assure you that it looks incredible with leggings as is, thanks to tiny side slits and an easy shape that's loose without swallowing you. Oftentimes the simplest, most comfortable things in our closets are the ones we reach for the most. Case in point.

Read on to find out what features make Lou & Grey's $30 tank top so perfect, see how I'd style it, and shop it for yourself!
