White Lines

White Lines
White lines were exceptionally popular backstage for Fall 2006. No, no, it's not what you're thinking, honestly. (Besides, we're saving the debauchery-filled stories for our blind items.) The lines we're talking about come from eyeliner pencil, and they're sure to make you look as awake as bump of the other stuff. Oscar de la Renta, Anna Sui, Miu Miu, and D &G were just a few of the fashions houses that featured a swipe of this eye-brightening liner on their runways. A little white on your inner lid will open up small eyes. It's also a tricky way to make smoky eye makeup zing.

We chatted up brilliant makeup artist Justin Henry (clients include Naomi Watts and Eva Mendes) on how to "make it work" in the real world. "First, make sure your pencil is both sharpened and clean-this is important because you're rubbing the pencil on the delicate, inner eye area," Henry says. "The white liner should be your final step-after applying all eye makeup and mascara-to keep it from smudging." If you want an even more natural pick-me-up, Henry suggests using a beige or cream pencil. "It will look just as effective and it's a little less dramatic," he says.

Want it, Need it!

Around the office, Philosophy's Big Gorgeous Eyes ($12.50) is in constant demand. Henry packs his makeup kit with white pencils from Nars (in Iceberg, $18.50) and Sephora (in white 222, $4). All are available at www.sephora.com
