New Wave Nails
Over the past few months, we've spotted some version of this look on celebrity hands galore. Early adapter Rihanna occasionally went for neon nails starting back in 2007, but this year she's in a day-glo polish frenzy. Seen here at the MTV Movie awards in June with Skittle green fingertips, she's also tried neon blue, yellow, and orange (China Glaze's Japanese Koi for the Grammys, specifically). You can go green as well with China Glaze Nail Polish's In The Lime Light ($5.40), Morbid Makeup's Neon Green ($2.99), or NYX Cosmetics Lime Polish ($3). We noticed another songstress is dedicated to the neon as well-Beyonce-though she favors acid yellow tones. Mrs. Carter was spotted arriving in Nice with electric lemon nails and attended the Kanye West show last month wearing the same color. To get a similar hue on your hands, try Essie's new Shorty Pants ($8) or OPI's Need Sunglasses ($7).
If you'd prefer a bold blue hue, like the polish Lily Allen chose for the British Glamour Woman of the Year Awards, you have several snappy options. Creative Nail Polish makes a great Hot Pop Blue ($6.50) and we're digging Color Club's Bizerk Turq ($1.99) as well. We also love Orly's Blue Collar ($4.95) so much that we put it in the Closet (along with the brand's other bright shades)! Readers who fancy purple nails a la Nicky Hilton are in luck too. The color Ms. Hilton likes is by Chanel and is part of a limited edition collection celebrating the new Robertson Boulevard boutique. Her specific bottle is called Rodeo Drive and it's one of four popping polish colors. Originally only available at the new West Hollywood shop, the collection will be available to the world at large online in July. Just sign up on the wait list now and cross your fingers! While you wait, try Lippmann Collection Nailcolor in Constant Craving ($15) or Essie's neon violet Bermuda Shorts ($8). Indecisive types, we also have a solution for you. Just follow in Lindsay Lohan's mani/pedi path and combine several shades for all-inclusive new wave nails.
