Get The Look/Kate Bosworth
Before we get into the details of how to achieve Kate's look, we've got to give you some background on the ultra-talented Pati Dubroff. She tends to the most famous faces in the world (Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Liv Tyler to name a tiny handful of her devoted clients) and you've seen her skills in all the major magazines (Vanity Fair, Vogue, W). On a personal note, she's wildly cool and incredibly nice, which is a refreshing surprise in the industry. She's also Dior Beauty's Celebrity Makeup Artist.
Back to the makeup-Kate wore this beauty look to "The 11th Hour" premiere in Los Angeles. "I wanted to emphasize her eyes, but since she was going to an event in the middle of the summer on a really hot day we had to make it appropriate," Dubroff says. She first used a Shu Uemura brush to lightly apply Chantecaille's Future Skin Foundation to Kate's skin. Any little imperfections were covered with Cle de Peau's concealor and Dubroff used Dior's Skinflash to illuminate the inner corners of Kate's eyes.
One of Dubroff's tricks for perfect eye makeup is the order in which she applies products. She likes to start with eyeliner, followed by a good basecoat of mascara, eye shadow, and then perhaps a final swipe of mascara. By first doing liner, she can really see where the pencil is going and the shape of the eye. Mascara comes next because it's much easier to clean up a bare lid than one covered in shadow. (If you've ever accidentally smudged your made-up eyelid with mascara, you know how difficult it is to repair the damage.) Dubroff then applies shadow and says that any loose bits that land on the lashes just act as a lash volumizer for the final coat of mascara.
Instead of a traditional smoky eye (in super dark shades of black), Dubroff used the warm bronze and brown colors of Dior's 5 Color Eye Shadow in Sunset Beige. Using Dior's Crayon Eyeliner in Deep Brown, she lined the upper and lower inner rims of Kate's eyes. While the density of color was on the rim, Dubroff also wanted a "tiny haze" of liner in the lash line, so she used the pencil there as well and softened the color by smudging. Kate's cheeks were warmed up with a sweep of Benefit's peachy Georgia and lips got a coat of sheer toffee lip gloss, courtesy of Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect in Linen Beige.
