This Closet Makeover Is Astounding

With another year starting soon, you might be pondering different ways to improve your life when it begins. In the grand tradition of New Year's resolutions, you may be thinking, Next year, I'll be more punctual, I'll procrastinate less, or I'll call my parents more often. Or, if you're like us, maybe you just desperately want and need to reorganize your closet.

It sounds easy enough: Purge the pieces you never wear anymore, straighten some hangers, stack some shoes, and call it a day. But the reality is that a truly life-altering closet makeover is not an easy task for most of us, and it can be helpful to get visually inspired before you take on such a large, looming task. We turned to Netherlands-based interiors blogger Holly Marder, who redid her entire bedroom including building a closet for herself.

"When we took over the house, this room was a disaster zone," Marder writes. "So much so that I refused to sleep in it until we had revamped the walls and floor, at the very least."

"Fresh, bright, and light. It's unbelievable what a fresh coat of white paint will do to a tired old space," she says. "The floors, walls, ceiling, window, and door frames, door, radiators and heating pipes all got a coat of white paint, and skirting boards were replaced, too."
