As evidence of the pendant's recent popularity, we gathered a wide range of celebrity examples. Lauren Conrad was seen leaving Foxtail, the fashionable supper club in West Hollywood, wearing an old-fashioned gold pendant in tandem with a few skinnier, shorter chains. Over in the UK, Kate Moss wore her favorite round pendant on an extended-length fine chain when attending a private viewing of Linda McCartney's photographs in London. (While Ms. Moss can double book her neck and simultaneously wear a scarf and pendant, this isn't a look for everyone. If you must, just make sure to wear your pendant on a delicate chain.) Over in Covent Garden, Peaches Geldoff was snapped sporting a vintage gold tassel pendant as she departed the European offshoot of Bungalow 8. Alexa Chung wore her beloved vintage pendant (one of her signature accessories lately) when checking out the O2 Wireless Festival in Hyde Park earlier this month. Rihanna also chose a long pendant necklace for a music event-her own performance on The Early Show! The songbird wore some plumage of her own and accompanied her statement necklace with an Elizabeth & James Feather James Blazer ($535.50 on sale).
While we won't insult your intelligence and instruct you on how to wear a pendant necklace, we will point out a few key pieces and styles to get you updated. One of our favorite variations on the trend is a sizeable pendant worn on a ribbon. As you can see above, it's a look ripped straight from Lanvin's fall runway and an easy way to personalize the trend. It probably goes without saying, but remember that if you fall in love with a pendant but it's not on the right chain, just swap it out for a different one. For example, while the tuleste market Lucite Choker ($185) looks swell on its multi-strand cords, it would be equally striking worn on ribbon or longer chain.
We found lots of excellent necklaces choices to start you down the pretty pendant path. If you're looking for something similar in shape and style to Kate Moss's piece, try the Tiger's Eye Pendant ($42) at Anthropologie. We think the Looking Glass Pendant Necklace ($34) by Urban Outfitters is a fine choice for both Alice in Wonderland fans and romantics alike. Jewelry designer Rachel Leigh makes a delicately beautiful Shadow Leaf Pendant Necklace ($128), but we're equally besotted with her Diamonte Edge Pendant Necklace ($149), which would look amazing on a ribbon. If you love the look of Peaches Geldof's tassel pendant, check out AZ Collection's Swarovski Crystal Tassel Pendant Necklace ($198). While it's a total splurge/investment piece, we also can't help but mention Erickson Beamon's Tassel Necklace ($910), as it is a stellar example of the look.
