Cap-Toe Heels

Cap-Toe Heels
While some trends are slow to catch on, others spread like wildfire the minute they hit the runways. Not surprisingly, today's accessory du jour, cap-toe shoes, falls under the latter category. A far cry from the classic cap-toes of Coco Chanel's era--the storied designer created the first pair in 1957--current interpretations of these chic, toe-dipped shoes manage to be both ladylike and subtly edgy, and feature everything from of-the-moment contrasting color combos to modern textures.Spotted in countless spring collections (Christian Louboutin, Giuseppe Zanotti, and Louis Vuitton, to name a few) and on loads of stylish influencers (Alexa Chung, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Solange Knowles), today's Accessory Report is proof that cap-toe shoes are the perfect footnote to all of your spring and summer looks!

On the Runway
Though we swooned over the color-block cap-toes at Pringle of Scotland and lusted after the chic square-toe versions at Yves Saint Laurent, most notable was the footwear at Louis Vuitton. For spring, designer Marc Jacobs capped off his uber-sweet confections with a series of equally precious cap-toe heels, ranging from pastel-colored mules with button embellishments to chic pumps, like the Merry-Go-Round Alligator Pumps ($9950) in Jaune, shown above. The candy-coated heels enhance the prim, ladylike feel of each look, but on their own, offer a wonderfully modern and charming take on the timeless shoe.

On the Streets
Given the prominent and tremendously stylish presence of cap-toe shoes on the runways, it's easy to see why so many celebrities and tastemakers were also quick to step into this accessory idea! We're quite fond of the Stuart Weitzman mint green Capsize Cap-Toe Pumps ($375, available here in Blush) DJ Solange Knowles wore out in New York a few months ago. Not only do the Mary-Jane heels combine three major spring trends-pastels, metallic accents, and a capped toe-they're also the perfect complement to her feminine silky white top and yellow skirt. Late last month, Gwyneth Paltrow was also spotted wearing cap-toe heels, albeit in a more vibrant shade of turquoise. Thanks to the bold hue and pointed-toe shape, her heels are at once both playful and sophisticated, giving Paltrow's chic mix of neutrals a fun pop of color and a polished finish. In addition to Knowles' and Paltrow's lust-worthy heels, we're also crazy about the orange and gold Thakoon Ostrich Point Toe Boots ($1240) model Michele Ouellet wore at a party for Claiborne Swanson Frank's book American Beauty. Paired with the designer's sleeveless Denim Heart Embroidered Dress ($2055), these fashion-forward heels are serious showstoppers.

On the Red Carpet
We've noted a slew of cap-toes hitting the red carpet too, with everyone from Jessica Alba to Kristen Stewart sporting the season's top styles. But of all those fantastic looks, Alexa Chung's ensemble in particular resonated with us when she showed up at the amfAR New York Gala earlier this year. The trendsetter expertly balanced her sweet and feminine Louis Vuitton top-which is part of the Broderie Anglaise Dress ($48,100, 866.VUITTON) from Look 47-and the Flowered Leather Skirt ($5290, 866.VUITTON) and floral-print Marni bag with Louis Vuitton's austere pumps for a well-balanced outcome.

On You
One of the things we love most about this footwear trend-in addition to its versatility-is that there are so many truly noteworthy styles to choose from. Whether you err on the feminine side or tend to gravitate toward edgier pieces, trust us, there is a cap-toe shoe for you! Readers seeking a prim, ladylike option should definitely consider Stuart Weitzman's Capsize Heels ($375) in Blush Aniline. They are the perfect afternoon wedding shoe, and would look quite sweet paired with a floral-print frock. We also approve of Manolo Blahnik's Campari Cap Toe Pumps ($735), and while yes, they are a bit of an investment, the black and silver combination will go with almost anything in your closet, so they're sure to take you well through the summer. VC Signature's sleek Signature Prunella Heels ($250) feature a leather python print, white metal cap-toe, and gold studs, which lend the shoe a covetable cool-girl vibe, while Topshop's Paparazzi Metallic Toe-Cap Shoes ($156), with rose gold accents, are a brilliant nod to the season's white shoe trend. Finally, we're counting down the days until we can snag Sam Edelman's Carrie Heels ($130, 177.932.7726) in Pewter. The diamond print and slim ankle-strap make them the perfect day-to-night heel!

For some additional affordable styles, we also suggest heading to ASOS, as the online retailer currently stocks a bunch of cute options, like the candy-striped Point Court Shoes with Gold Toe Cap ($104) and the floral-print Sidney Point Court Shoes ($78). Zara has its own take on the trend too--the Court Shoe with Metal Toe Cap ($90)--which comes in a pretty peach hue and is equipped with a functional low heel. Of course, if you prefer to try cap-toe flats instead, Reiss' Alicia Ballerina Flats ($245), Kors Michael Kors' Otley Cap-Toe Leather Ballet Flats ($195), and Deena & Ozzy's Metal Cap Toe Skimmers ($34) all offer a chic and comfortable way for you incorporate this must-try accessory trend into your wardrobe.--Jessica Baker
