Block Heels

In addition to luxe smoking slippers and fall boots, there is another shoe style you should consider this season: block heels. Offering an inch or two of height without sacrificing comfort, this delightful style offers the perfect blend of practicality and polish. Though it might have started as a ladylike staple, block heels have evolved into something much cooler and are now being embraced by tastemakers like Chloe Sevigny and Kate Bosworth. And with so many covetable iterations to choose from, you're sure to find a pair that both you and your feet will love. On The Runway
There were a couple notable instances of block heels in the Resort 13 collections, but two particularly stand out in our minds. The first was at Balenciaga, where sleek t-strap versions lent a sporty contrast to the collection's romantic silhouettes. The second, Marni's Metallic Leather Loafers ($715, available here in silver) with contrasting white heels, have a chrome-like gleam and streamlined shape that's in perfect keeping with the season's futuristic look.

Get The Look
When it comes to the season's best block heels, we've got your feet covered. Classic If you'd like to start your collection with a classic style, consider Zara's High Heel Ballerina Shoes ($90)--the bright red hue will make a cheery addition to a mix of neutrals--or Repetto's wear-with-anything Camille Mid Heel Ballerina Shoes ($280). Tassel and bows details add extra charm, which is why we love Rochas' menswear-inspired Tassel Pumps ($625) and Salvatore Ferragamo's Vara Heels ($395) in Charcoal Suede. Prints Of course, patterns will do the trick too, so try a leopard pair, like Prada'sPrinted Patent Leather Block-Heel Pumps ($530), or a chic snakeskin iteration, like Topshop's Maj Mid Heel Ballerina Shoes ($70). Sparkly Since we're in the midst of a particularly festive time of year, we can't think of a better way to round out our picks than with a few sparkly iterations. Embellished with Swarovski crystals, Delman's Covet Heels ($348) are sure to dazzle with every step, while Valentino's Pumps ($745) will add instant glamour to your holiday ensemble.--Jessica Baker
