Beyoncé's Costume Designer Just Got Nominated for a Major Honor
Who could forget 2016's epic Lemonade? Beyoncé's visual album not only popularized the lemon emoji, but it also made a major fashion statement—and everyone took note, including the Costume Designers Guild Awards.
Nominations for the 19th annual honors were announced today, and stylist B. Åkerlund is up for the Excellence in Short Form Design award for her work in "Hold Up." Yes, it's the video in which Beyoncé literally slays with a baseball bat in designer heels and that beautiful off-the-shoulder Roberto Cavalli gown by designer Peter Dundas for the brand's F/W 16 collection. Other notable nominees include Mary Zophres for her designs in La La Land—which features a soon-to-be iconic yellow dress—Kimberly Adams and Malgosia Turzanska for Stranger Things, and Renee Ehrlich Kalfus for Hidden Figures. The ceremony will take place on February 21 and also honor Meryl Streep with the Distinguished Collaborator award.
