Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson
We have a confession to make: immediately after seeing Almost Famous, we developed a serious fashion-crush on not only Kate Hudson's on-screen persona, Penny Lane, but also on the stylish star herself. Whether she was polished at the Oscars in a shimmery Stella McCartney gown or showing off her signature sixties rocker look with wide-legged jeans and silk scarves, we were absolutely smitten with Hudson's inspiring and eclectic taste. And though her style has certainly evolved over the past decade, our love for her has not waned. In fact, while watching a trailer for Nine the other day-in which Hudson go-go dances and belts out tunes such as "Cinema Italiano"-our hearts skipped a beat with excitement, as we imagined what her promotional-tour wardrobe will look like. Now that's amore!

While Hudson's movie tour mania won't officially start for a few more weeks (the Rob Marshall-helmed musical-which also stars Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, and Daniel Day Lewis-will be released on Christmas day) that isn't keeping us from creating a pseudo-outfit for her now. Though she will surely look stunning at the international premieres and countless press junkets, for today's feature, we wanted to showcase Hudson's casual and chic off-duty style. Not only is her laid-back élan always spot-on, but with a little strategy, you too can seamlessly weave these unfussy pieces into your day and evening rotation. As they say, let the show begin...

1. Michael Kors Santa Barbara Retro Inspired Sunglasses ($99)
Though Hudson's favorite Ray-Ban aviators are certainly rock'n'roll, we think these fifties-inspired cat-eye frames (which also come in black and peacock teal) would be a welcome change in Hudson's shade rotation!

2. Zara Basic Plush Round Collar Dress ($40)
Alexander Wang and Isabel Marant may be the masters of upscale sweatshirt styles, but we think the laid back feel of this Zara belted tunic suits Hudson's effortless sensibilities perfectly. Worn with a pair of opaque tights and simple black boots, this would totally be Hudson's go-to get-up for running errands around the neighborhood!

3. Jeffrey Campbell Lubbock Suede Over the Knee Boots ($215)
Over-the-knee boots are currently experiencing a serious fashion moment, but Hudson has been faithful to the tall and slouchy style for quite some time. Though she has flat pairs in sumptuous suede and luxurious leather, we think these forest green gems would be perfect to add a pop of color to any winter ensemble.

4. Levi's Leather Moto Jacket ($298)
Hudson may clean up spectacularly well, but deep down she's a jeans-and-t-shirt kind of gal. That's why we think this brown motorcycle jacket from Levi's would fit beautifully into her daily wardrobe. Pair it with your favorite indigo denim or a heavenly harem pant and you'll get a look that is classic yet edgy and easy breezy-much like our subject du jour!

5. Maje Leaf Pendant Necklace ($120)
Though Hudson's style has evolved from haute hippie to city sophisticate, she still depends on enviable, ornate jewelry to give her outfits a little oomph! This pendant necklace from Maje features beautiful gold tassels and orb-like deep green stones; in short, a perfectly charming piece to help anyone transition a favorite daytime look into evening appropriate attire!

6. Proenza Schouler Large Suede PS1 Bag ($1995, 212.826.8900) in Tobacco
After sifting through literally hundreds of Hudson images (it's a tough job, dear readers!), we were struck by her constant clothing-companion: a shoulder strap bag. Whether it's black or beige, studded or simple, she is rarely spotted without one on her arm. Of course, the current messenger bag of choice is the instantly classic PS1 bag, which is perfect in just about every way, though we also think that IRO's Efrone Messenger Bag ($370) is a smart and chic look-a-like alternative!

7. Benefit BADgal Mascara ($19) in Brown
Jet black mascara may be de rigueur for her countless premieres and press appearances, but for those off-duty days, we think Hudson should coat her lashes in this rich shade of dark brown; it's dramatic enough to make your peepers pop without feeling full-on fancy.

8. Reinhard Plant Alpino Hat ($285)
Paparazzi or not, a girl has got to stay covered! Hudson, who has been known to rock felt fedoras and wide-brimmed chapeaux, would look darling in this quirky cloche from Reinhard Plant. The leopard-print accent is very of the moment, so this rabbit fur topper would help her stay cozy and chic!
