While all industry insiders are spinning like well-dressed whirling dervishes during the international fashion weeks, in the midst of this chaos, four outfits brought us (and you!) to a standstill. Whether the fashion plates in question were enjoying divine activities, such as an after-show fête, or dealing with the mundane, like errands, this stylish quartet inspired countless requests for information from you, dear readers. Since we are in the fact-finding biz, we were happy to sleuth out the details for these four looks and are pleased to bring these fashionable femmes front-and-center in today's edition of What Was She Wearing: Answers! As always, we invite you to keep those questions coming!
While many society swans flocked to the Bryant Park tents, only one caught your eye-Byrdie Bell. We agree that the outfit she wore to the Anna Sui show was simply spot-on. Though she was sporting a short dress, specifically the Affiche Satin Dress ($570) from Alexandre Herchcovitch's F/W 09 line, she wore it in a weather-appropriate way (via the Faux Fur Wrap ($435), also from Herschovitch's label). To achieve Bell's fashion week look, try a floral frock, like Anna Sui's Baroque Lilies Dress ($530) or byCORPUS' Floral Circle Dress ($48), with a luxurious vest, like Topshop's Faux Fur Gillet ($120). While Bell finished off her ensemble with Christian Dior's Safari Sandals ($1390, 212.931.2950), we like N.Y.L.A.'s Serpens Strappy Sandals ($100) for an excellent look-a-like option at a much more affordable price!
In Style-contributor and darling dresser Rachel Bilson looked laid-back and beautiful while running to a business meeting in Los Angeles last week. Her Brian Reyes Triple Gauze Gaucho Pants from the designer's Resort 09 collection prove that when worn in a smart silhouette, light pants look right after Labor Day. Though her exact slacks are sadly no longer available, try Alexander Wang's Baggy Cropped Pants ($395) or Forever 21's Drawstring Linen Pants ($20) for two similarly shaped selections. Bilson wisely paired her palazzo-style bottoms with a body-con black tank and Miu Miu's Nappa Quilted Bag with Studded Detail ($1595, 888.977.1900) to add a little ladylike edge. Be sure to check out Big Buddha's Sedona Shoulder Bag ($85) or Topshop's Quilted Tab Cross Body Bag ($50) to wear with your black-and-light outfit to get a Bilson-worthy end result!
Former WhoWhatWear.com GOTM and current It-girl Dree Hemingway looked modern and chic at the Calvin Klein Collection post-show dinner at The Standard New York. Hemingway, who is likethis with designers such as Alexander Wang and CKC's own Francisco Costa, opted for two marvelously minimalist pieces from the latter's F/W 09 show: the White Sheer Nylon Wrap Dress ($1495, 212.292.9000) and the Leather Trimmed Bouclé Military Jacket ($2495), specifically. To get a similar masculine-feminine combo, we recommend that you layer 3.1 Phillip Lim's Double Breasted Box Cut Blazer ($575) or Silence & Noise's Boyfriend Tweed Blazer ($78) over your favorite breezy dress. Just complete the look with a pair of high-heeled boots like Hemingway's Miu Miu Zip-Fastening Ankle Boots ($720) or Charles David's Bronze Ankle Boots ($50); whether you wear them with a mini or a pair of skinny jeans, this shoe shape is sure to carry you throughout fall and winter!
Another one of our favorite fashion week ensembles came to us vis-à-vis Who What Wear reader favorite, Alexa Chung. The It's On-host achieved a masterful mix of girly and tough garments when she attended the 3.1 Phillip Lim S/S 10 show. Her Polka Dot Ribbon Tie ($375, 310.358.1988) from the designer's Resort 10 collection is going to be a huge hit when it arrives in stores this November; until then, sate your appetite for spots with American Apparel's Polka Dot Pencil Dress ($41). In true Chung-style, MTV's most fashionable face opted to rock up her pretty frock with a few substantial leather pieces, mainly her vintage leather biker jacket-try Domo's Cropped Moto Jacket ($660) or Mossimo's Faux Leather Motorcycle Jacket ($30) for contemporary alternatives-and Mulberry's The Alexa Bag (the British line's newest bag designed with Chung in mind!). While this leggy Brit may have received a prototype of her namesake messenger, Urban Outfitters' Sabina Half Moon Satchel ($245) is a chic carryall alternative!
